Modern Marvels

The 1950s was an era of possibilities. Modernism and technology served as salvation - with the Canadian experience culminating in the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The technological marvel opened to international fanfare in 1959 and cost $470 mln. The numbers are impressive; 7 massive locks, 259 km2 flooded, and dimensions too small for modern ships.
